Disclaimer

Your capital is at risk. Investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you put in.

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Historical returns do not guarantee future outcomes.

ActivTrades is an established forex and CFD broker founded in 2001. Its main strengths are its regulatory footprint and platform choice: clients may have access to the proprietary ActivTrader platform, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. The exact product set, leverage limits and legal protections depend on the country of residence and the ActivTrades entity that opens the account.

Risk warning: leveraged derivatives are complex instruments. You can lose all of the money committed to a position, and losses can occur rapidly. Consider whether you understand the product and can afford the risk. This review is general information, not investment advice.

Our assessment separates the broker's own current disclosures from our editorial judgement. Terms, products and protections can change and can differ by country.

Our Verdict

ActivTrades is a credible option for experienced CFD traders who value platform choice and access to a strongly regulated entity. It is not our first choice for passive investors or anyone who does not fully understand leverage. Confirm the contracting entity and live fee schedule before funding.

Fees and Trading Costs

ActivTrades uses spreads and, for some instruments or account arrangements, commissions. Published “spreads from” figures are minimums, not a promise of the spread you will receive. Spreads can widen around news, illiquid sessions and volatile markets. Overnight financing can apply when a leveraged position remains open after the rollover time. Currency conversion, inactivity or payment-provider charges may also be relevant.

There is no single deposit figure that can safely be applied to every client and entity. The broker's current help centre and account-opening flow should be treated as authoritative. Before depositing, inspect the contract specification for the exact instrument and calculate the total cost: spread, commission, financing and any conversion charge.

Platforms and Tools

ActivTrader is browser-based and uses TradingView-powered charts. It offers order entry, watchlists and risk-management tools without a desktop installation. MT4 remains useful for traders with existing MQL4 indicators or Expert Advisors, while MT5 provides a newer multi-asset architecture and broader order functionality. Platform availability can differ by entity and instrument.

A demo account is useful for learning the interface, but simulated execution does not reproduce live liquidity, slippage or the emotional effect of real losses. Automated strategies also require independent testing and monitoring; platform support does not make a strategy profitable.

Products and Market Access

ActivTrades advertises more than 1,000 CFDs across asset classes that include forex, shares, indices, commodities, ETFs, bonds and cryptocurrencies. Availability varies by jurisdiction. A CFD gives economic exposure to a price movement but normally does not give ownership or shareholder rights in the underlying asset. This distinction matters for dividends, voting rights, custody and long-term investing.

Regulation and Client Protection

The group operates through several regulated entities, including an FCA-authorised UK firm. An FCA licence is meaningful, but it does not prevent market losses and UK compensation or ombudsman access only applies where the client and claim meet the relevant rules. Clients served by another entity can receive different leverage limits, complaint routes and insolvency protections.

Check the legal entity named in the account agreement, then verify that entity in the regulator's own register. Do not infer that every group licence applies to every account. Client-money segregation and negative-balance protection reduce particular risks; neither guarantees that all funds will always be recovered.

Who Is ActivTrades For?

ActivTrades can suit active forex and CFD traders who want a proprietary web platform alongside MetaTrader. It is less suitable for buy-and-hold investors seeking direct ownership of shares or ETFs, and for beginners attracted mainly by leverage. We would choose an entity with the strongest protection available in the client's jurisdiction and start by comparing the live cost of the instruments actually intended for trading.

Common Questions

Is ActivTrades regulated? Yes, the group includes regulated entities, including an FCA-authorised UK entity. The protection attached to a particular account depends on the contracting entity and client eligibility.

Does ActivTrades offer real shares? The reviewed retail proposition is primarily CFD trading. Verify the product label and ownership terms for your jurisdiction before assuming that an instrument is an underlying share.

Which platforms are available? ActivTrader, MT4 and MT5 are advertised, with availability depending on entity and product.

Editorial Method and Sources

We reviewed the broker export supplied by the site owner, checked current first-party broker disclosures and used regulator information where available. We did not treat awards, testimonials, “best” claims, demo results or affiliate terms as evidence of trading quality. Prices described as “from”, product counts and processing times are not guaranteed. Verification date: 1 August 2026.
