Deriv traces its operating history to 1999 and offers CFDs and other derivatives through MT5, cTrader, TradingView and proprietary interfaces. Its best-known products are derived indices that operate around the clock. These indices are generated under Deriv's published methodology and are not the same as prices formed on an independent securities exchange.
Risk warning: leveraged derivatives are complex instruments. You can lose all of the money committed to a position, and losses can occur rapidly. Consider whether you understand the product and can afford the risk. This review is general information, not investment advice.
Our assessment separates the broker's own current disclosures from our editorial judgement. Terms, products and protections can change and can differ by country.
Our Verdict
Deriv has a genuinely distinctive platform and product set, especially its 24/7 derived indices. That uniqueness should not be confused with suitability: the products are complex, protections vary by entity and proprietary indices add model and counterparty considerations absent from exchange-traded investing.
Fees and Trading Costs
Pricing varies by account and platform. Deriv currently lists MT5 Standard, Zero Spread, Swap-Free, Financial, Gold and Crypto accounts. Some accounts advertise spreads from zero with commission; others embed costs in the spread. “No minimum deposit” on an MT5 account does not mean every payment method accepts any amount.
Check the live specification for spread, commission, overnight financing and withdrawal limits. Commission-free wording does not mean cost-free trading. High leverage, including figures up to 1:1000 on some international products, magnifies small price movements and can lead to rapid loss.
Platforms and Tools
MT5 offers advanced charting and Expert Advisors. cTrader provides another CFD interface and copy functionality. TradingView integration adds a familiar analytical front end, while Deriv Trader and Bot serve proprietary contract types. Product availability is not identical across platforms or jurisdictions.
A demo account can explain mechanics, but simulated funds do not validate a strategy or reproduce all live execution conditions. Automated and copied strategies remain the user's risk.
Products and Market Access
The range includes forex, stock and index CFDs, commodities, cryptocurrency CFDs, ETFs and derived indices, depending on account and jurisdiction. CFD holders do not own the underlying shares or cryptocurrencies. Derived indices are proprietary products whose prices do not come from an external exchange; users should read the methodology, conflict disclosures and contract terms before trading them.
Regulation and Client Protection
Deriv's regulatory page lists entities licensed in the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Mauritius, Vanuatu and Labuan, alongside other registered group companies. EU services can be provided through Deriv Investments (Europe) Ltd under the MFSA, as reflected in the supplied EU terms.
These regimes are not interchangeable. The EU terms describe execution-only OTC services, an appropriateness assessment and participation in Malta's Investor Compensation Scheme subject to eligibility and limits. International accounts may have different complaint and compensation arrangements. Confirm the entity on the account agreement before relying on any licence.
Who Is Deriv For?
Deriv may suit experienced derivatives traders who specifically understand derived indices or want its platform mix. It is not a substitute for a conventional custody broker for long-term ownership, and we would not recommend selecting it merely for 24/7 access or high leverage. The safest comparison begins with the legal entity, product type and maximum tolerable loss.
Common Questions
Is Deriv regulated? Several operating entities are regulated, but the regulator and protection depend on the company serving the account.
Are derived indices real stock-market indices? No. They are proprietary indices, not exchange-traded benchmarks formed by outside buyers and sellers.
Does Deriv offer MT4? The current principal MetaTrader offering is MT5; platform availability should be checked by region.
